Randy Ginsburg is a director, puppet designer, and puppeteer. He has designed puppets within a vast range of theater styles, including English Pantos, Traditional Bengoli Folktales, Outdoor Site-Specific Performance, Opera and Cabaret. He recently returned to NY after three years abroad in the UK, where he received an MA in Devised Theater, and had the opportunity to work on productions in Madrid and Beirut. For two years, he’s collaborated with the BIM project, a company aiming to raise cultural awareness through site-specific performances in Beirut.
He was recently accepted into the Puppet Lab at St. Anne’s Warehouse, where he is developing a piece about an asylum seeking Peacock in London, exploring the theme of truth and narrative in exile. His other current project is a racy and lascivious Shadow Puppet PurimSpiel called “The Whole Megillah!”, where he’ll tweak the story to satirize contemporary socio/political issues. He is fascinated by visual storytelling, weaving old forms and contemporary forms together.
Randy was born in Philadelphia, PA and moved to NYC in high school to pursue Musical Theater. While he has moved on to explore directing and puppetry, he continues to sing and incorporate song into all of his performances. Recent credits include "Bonbibi, a Bengoli Folktale" Rich Mix, London (Tiger Puppet Design), "the Wild Night of the Witches," Little Angel Theatre (marionettist), "Tara Under the Weather," Mimetic Festival, London, "Esther Shadow Puppet Show," Moishe House, (puppet designer/ puppeteer), "Trash Puppet R&D" with the BIM Project in Beirut, Lebanon.
