GALINA MUKOMOLOVA

Description of Work

As an MFA candidate at the University of Michigan, Galina is currently working on a manuscript entitled Durak/Дурак.   Дурак is a collection of poems and a journey, a card game and a slipstream. Inside Дурак, there is a heroine, a witch, a rabbit, a daughter --she is Jewish, Russian, queer, mute, all-knowing, and above all, a fool. She is the one who tells the story.

Bio

Gala Mukomolova is the descendent of a Black Sea witch. When she's reading her poems, she's putting a spell on you. Gala learned the art of a good show from the barkers of Coney Island. She's marshaled the Mermaid Parade and expanded walls with the Studio Museum in Harlem. Once, Gala lived in Portland, Oregon, and dedicated her time to “the youth” and unlicensed social work.   Recently, she stayed at the Vermont Studio Center. There, she spent countless hours watching cartoons about the mutable Vasilyssa and any other Союзмультфи́льм that YouTube supplied. Gala is currently working on a manuscript entitled Durak/дурак; you can see some of her work in Chorus: A Literary Mixtape by Saul Williams and the Orange Quarterly. As an MFA candidate at the University of Michigan, she spends her time living the dream and examining the market value of feelings.
